CITY of KITCHENER

TEAM to INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN'S GAMES
San Francisco U.S.A.
July 9 to 17, 2008

Once again this year, the City of Kitchener will be sending a team of young athletes and their coaches to INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN'S GAMES to promote peace through sport.

Our team will be leaving Kitchener City hall at 8:45 am (Tuesday, July 9) traveling to Pearson International Airport and arriving at San Francisco International Airport later that afternoon.

They will return to Kitchener on the evening of Thursday, July 17.

In late December, the City of Kitchener was invited by the Mayor of San Francisco to participate in the 42 nd INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN'S GAMES this year. There will be teams from Mongolia , Australia and Ghana for the very first time.

Kitchener is very fortunate to have our athletes participate in this meeting of cultures.

This is the fifth time that Kitchener has participated in the Games:

2000 – Hamilton, 2004 - Cleveland , Ohio , 2005 – Coventry , England , and 2007 - Reykjavik , Iceland .

Kitchener is sending a team of 16 youth (ages 13 to 15), 3 coaches, a chaperone and a Head of Delegation.

There will be 7 athletes from Kitchener Waterloo Youth Basketball Association,

7 athletes from Kitchener Soccer, and 2 athletes from Region of Waterloo Swim Club.

The International Children's Games “promote peace and friendship through sports to the world's youth”. Now the world's largest international multi-sport youth games, the International Children's Games have allowed 25,000 children throughout more than 70 countries to compete internationally, experience new cultures and form lifelong friendships with fellow athletes.
