Athlete Selection Process

The Athletes for the Kitchener team were selected by a four-member panel of volunteers who have several years of experience in community sport and youth groups, and personal involvement with the ICG.

The rigorous process included an extensive application form, letters of reference from teachers, a 250-word essay on why they wanted to attend the Games, and an interview with the Kitchener ICG Chapter selection committee. Athletes had to demonstrate a commitment to sport and education, an interest in learning about new cultures, and an understanding of the philosophy of the International Children's Games – peace through sport.
